Dogs really do know some stuff when it comes to work ethic. They fixate on a goal and they use up every bit of energy going for it until they collapse exhausted and sleep. A bit later they wake up, then they repeat. . They don't care what other people think about them ... they just know what they want and they'll work till they get it. . Sure not all dogs are as diligent and determined as Missy from @brydiecharlesworth and @dogeducationcentre , but I don't think I've ever met a dog that doesn't work hard, play hard then rest hard to do it all over again. . Thanks for coming again Brydie and Missy. You've visited every year for five years, and every time I'm blown away by how much you teach our photographers about being professional and working hard. . It boils down to this: People don't want to pay you for something they could do themselves. I've had so many chats with photographers over the last week, in the classroom and in industry, about why are things so damn hard, complex or tiring? Yes, lugging a bunch of extra lighting gear around can be hard. Yes, Photoshop is complicated to learn and hard to use. Yes, that camera technique takes more than a minute to get good at. And that's a good thing because ... "That's why people pay you to do it." Your skills, your patience, your persistence to learn frequency separation or back-button focus -- all of the sweat, strain and hours of practice -- that's why people hire you, because you can do something they can't. It's why I pay my hairdresser or my mechanic. They can do stuff I can't do at home. People pay photographers that are willing to sweat for them. Look at the legends. @chasejarvis. @joemcnallyphoto. @zarias. It's not just talent. They're better than most because they outwork most. Photography is great like that. It's a muscle, not a gift. Flex it often, and you'll be rewarded. 📷 @markjesser

No complaints ... EVER. But -- we've been really burning it at both ends this week. Everywhere I go, I'm meeting photographers up against a deadline. Friday is a big day for many of us, and sitting here on Wednesday night, grinding away over my MacBook, it's starting to feel like we'll either never make it to Friday, or Friday is going to HIT us RIGHT NOW. No warning, just flatten us down before we had a chance of being ready. Reminding myself, and those around me, that we are almost there. Grind out a few more pictures, a few more paragraphs, a few more contracts or quotes or job sheets ... we're all going to make deadline. (PS -- I spent much of last week at Adobe's annual conference called Make It in Sydney. @JRfromPTC was a standout, and he showed us how to blur that line between graphics and photos, real and virtual, present and future, 2D and 3D. If you get time ... research Project Felix. Or, if you can't get to Felix ... grit your teeth and try and work out how to do it in the Photoshop mothership. Thanks also to new friend @kjcreative_adobe who is big on inspiration and small on excuses. Thanks for encouragement!) More tk.
